What to Actually Test During Your 10 Days
Most attorneys use less than 20% of the trial period productively. Here is how to use all 10 days.
Import a contact and create a matter. Enter your billing rates. Connect your calendar.
Create a time entry. Start and stop a timer on mobile. Send a test invoice to yourself via email.
Set up the client portal for one test contact. Walk through the client-facing view.
Record a trust account deposit and disbursement. Run a three-way reconciliation report.
If evaluating Pro: test the intake form. Create a document from a template.
Review the mobile app for time capture. Evaluate whether the daily workflow fits your practice.
Monthly vs Annual Billing: The Commitment Tradeoff
Monthly Billing
- ✓ Cancel any time, no penalty
- ✓ Effective end of billing period
- ✓ Maximum flexibility
- − Costs $10/user/month more
- − $120/user/year extra vs annual
Annual Billing
- ✓ Save $120/user/year
- ✓ Predictable annual budgeting
- − 12-month commitment
- − No refund for unused months
- − Cannot switch to monthly mid-year
Start monthly after the free trial. Use 3 months to validate that MyCase fits your workflow. Switch to annual at your first renewal to capture $120/user/year in savings. This costs you $30/user extra for the 3-month validation period, which is worth the flexibility.
How to Cancel and Export Your Data
Cancelling Your Subscription
Cancellation is initiated through MyCase support (not a self-serve button as of last check). Contact support via email or in-app chat. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. For monthly billing, that means up to 30 days of remaining access. For annual billing, you keep access through the end of the annual term.
Exporting Your Data
Before cancelling, export your data via Settings > Data Export. Contacts, matters, time entries, and billing history export as CSV. Documents export as PDFs. After cancellation, data is retained for approximately 30 days before permanent deletion. Do not delay your export.
Cancellation FAQ
What happens to my data if I cancel?
After cancellation, MyCase retains your data for approximately 30 days before permanent deletion. During this window, you can export contacts, matters, time entries, and billing history as CSV files and documents as PDFs. Export your data before cancelling or immediately after to ensure nothing is lost. After the 30-day window, data cannot be recovered.
Can I pause my MyCase subscription?
MyCase does not offer a formal subscription pause feature. If you need to reduce costs temporarily, downgrade to the lowest plan tier (Basic at $39/mo annual or $49/mo monthly) rather than cancelling and losing your data. Re-importing data after cancellation is time-consuming. The cost of keeping a Basic seat through a slow period is usually lower than the time cost of reimporting later.
If I cancel during a free trial, is there a charge?
No. The 10-day free trial does not require a credit card. You can cancel at any time during the trial with no charge. Your trial account data is retained for 30 days after the trial expires whether or not you explicitly cancel. No action is required to avoid being charged -- there is no payment information on file during the trial.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my annual subscription mid-year?
MyCase's standard policy does not provide prorated refunds for unused months on annual subscriptions. Annual billing is a 12-month commitment. If you need flexibility to cancel, start with monthly billing (an extra $10/user/month) and switch to annual only after you have validated the platform for your practice. The $30/user extra cost for 3 months of monthly billing is cheaper insurance than being locked into an annual subscription you end up not using.
How do I export my data from MyCase?
Export your data through Settings > Data Export in your MyCase account. Contacts, matters, time entries, and billing history export as CSV files. Documents export as PDFs from the document management section. The export process takes a few minutes for most accounts. Large firms with extensive document libraries should allow additional time. Download and verify your export before initiating cancellation.
